The mischief maker in cricket,"Rain"

The high intensity fun of cricket has always been prey to only one factor. The rain gods. Whenever there is rain, matches are either washed out, shortened in length or affected badly because of deviation in playing conditions. Even with Duckworth Lewis system in play, games are sometimes reduced to revised playing conditions, which leads to some unusual looking targets being chased and when the time for having an actual game is finished, winners are selected by default, which is displeasing for the crowd and for the millions of cricketing fans around the world who are watching the game. When I say that rain is the most despicable thing that happens to a cricket match, I mean it.

Even as I speak, the match between India and South Africa which is currently being played in Dharamshala is being affected by rain. The toss also could not happen because of the showers at the stadium. This must be a disappointment for all those fans who went for the match, despite the threat from Coronavirus. So what is the solution to this problem? Can there be a facility which stops rain from interfering cricket matches? There might be just one.

How about an overhead covering in case of rain? A circular shaped ceiling which opens in case rains comes into the picture. That's right guys. I'm talking about indoor cricket. If there was a plain, straight ceiling, there could be a chance that the ball may hit the ceiling with power hitters like Pollard, Gayle, Pandya and many more who are known to hit big. But a circular ceiling, which sits on the stadium like an ice cream on a cone, we could actually have indoor cricket matches. This sounds a bit new and highly expensive and very time consuming as there are 100s of stadiums around the world and having an overhead cover like this in all locations might not be financially possible at this time. But this could be the very thing that can lead us to a better tomorrow, where we can witness no washed out games nor shortened games. Right now it seems like a dream. But I dream for a better tomorrow. As a huge cricket fan, the last thing I want in any match are the words,"Cancelled due to rain".
