Rohit Sharma is no doubt one of the finest players in 20-20 cricket. But his recent inconsistency poses a problem to India. Although he is the only player to have scored 3 100s in t20is for India, he has not been able to able to perform on a consistent basis. As an opener and with the t20 World Cup just around the corner, Rohit has to be able to get India off to a good start.
In 2019, he scored 396 runs in 14 matches in t20is with an average of 28.3 with a strike rate of 138.5 and a highest score of 85. Even though he has given some stellar performances and helped his team get over the line on some occasions, his consistency remains an issue. In the recent on going series against New Zealand he has managed to score only 15 runs in the first 2 games. With Shikhar Dhawan injured and Rahul finding form at the other end, the onus is on the hitman to complement Rahul at this time. And with the World Cup in November , team India would want to get off to good starts and Rohit, being the vice captain will be looked upon by everyone and expected to score big and score on a regular basis. The newly budding Indian middle order with Iyer, Manish Pandey and Shivam Dubey who will come after the Indian captain Virat Kohli, are picking up the pace with Shreyas scoring in both the t20s. But they would want the experienced Rohit and Rahul to set up a good foundation for these talented youngsters to come out and express themselves in the middle
K L Rahul recently has picked up the pace by scoring big runs, which includes his 2 back to back 50s against New Zealand which helped India go 2-0 up in the series. Iyer continues to do the same by being one of the top scorers in both the wins. Manish Pandey has offsite looked hesitant but with not a lot of batting left when he comes out in the middle, it won't be fair to judge him so quickly. The bowling has looked in control and sorted after that last match performance by all the Indian bowlers. Shami, Jadeja and Bumrah being the pick of the bowlers. So the team would expect Rohit to start firing so as to prepare for the t20 World Cup and provide the support for an in-form K L Rahul.
